Recently, what I considered to be a fascinating story appeared in the LA Times about some remarkable services available from a funeral home located in South Los Angeles. The Boyd Funeral Home offers many colorful, musical, and ceremonial options to accompany a funeral. And unlike what many people would regard as an ordinary, gloomy service, a service from Boyd is, in the words of its owner, more of a “celebration of life.” There is loud and lively gospel music and singing. There are handsomely attired professional pallbearers who stand at attention throughout the service.  And there is lively dancing the casket is borne out of the church.
