Keep your estate plan current with your travel plans

In 2015, we can “travel” practically anywhere on the Internet.  And beyond the virtual world, we may also literally travel to all parts of the globe to climb mountains, scuba dive, cruise alongside icebergs, or go up in hot air balloons.  For some, international travel is in their job description, while for others, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime vacation.  And the planning that often goes into such trips can be complex and time-consuming, to the point that even important details can be overlooked.

I am not asking if your passport in order and if you remembered to pack a toothbrush.  I mean, have you kept your estate plan current with your travel plans?  Is your will up to date?  Have you and your attorney put your advance medical directives into legal written form?  And what about naming guardians for your children, or perhaps creating a trust that protects your home?  After all, whether you are traveling to the next state or the next continent, it’s wise to be prepared for the unexpected.  And whether it’s work or a holiday escape, why interrupt your plans with worry?  Our lives move quickly and with all the demands of work, family and other responsibilities, everyone tends to forget or put off something, such as updating a will or changing your designated trustees or beneficiaries.

My legal practice centers on estate planning.  I am available to help you create a comprehensive plan that is tailored to your specific needs and wishes, or to update your existing plan.  Your directives are my priority, from basic wills to complex trusts.  Bring your questions and concerns, and we’ll create a plan that addresses them.  And if you happen to be up against a travel deadline, for example, we will do everything possible to accommodate your timeline.  Please contact us at your convenience, at 818.956.9200.
