Estate planning is an evolving area of law, and a prime example of this is the various green burial options available to the eco-friendly client. Many clients wish to leave minimal impact on the environment when they die, and we’ve identified some of the unique ways you can plan for a “green burial”:
Diamonds are forever. Lifegem is a company that creates a “certified, high-quality diamond created from a lock of hair or the cremated ashes of a loved one as a memorial to their unique life”. You can even memorialize your four-legged furry friends!
The Sound of Music. Vinyly is a company that can create a vinyl record with your cremated ashes. The company lets you record a final message for your loved ones or have your favorite song recorded onto the record.
Be a part of the ocean. If you enjoy marine life, one eco-friendly way to plan your burial is to have your ashes compressed into a living reef. With this approach, you are sure to leave a great impact on the environment by continuing to support marine life.
Create your own family forest. Although just an idea for now, Italian designers at Capsula Mundi are in the process of creating “burial pods”, which would “place the body into an egg-shaped capsule made of starch plastic. Once the pod is buried (like a seed), a tree is planted on top and subsequently cared for by relatives and friends”.
Educating our clients regarding various “green burial” options is one example of how we work to customize and personalize every estate plan.
