An estate planning attorney salutes Mickey Rooney

Another Hollywood icon, Mickey Rooney, passed away recently at the age of 93.  He began acting when he was a child; over many decades he made over a hundred movies ranging all the way from musicals with Judy Garland to biographies like “Bill” and family classics like “The Black Stallion.” Mr. Rooney’s extensive career and many celebrity friendships are things to admire and respect.  His private life also presents quite a colorful story.  Mr. Rooney was married eight times and had many children, stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  I have to smile when I say, he must have kept a host of attorneys very busy in his time with all those marriages, divorces and births. And then, consider all the estate planning aspects.  Eight marriages and divorces suggest the need for constant changes in beneficiaries, trustees, advance health directives and guardianship designations.  With more than ten children and stepchildren, nineteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, it’s a little daunting to think about all the wills, bequests and trusts that estate planning attorneys would be called upon to create and update as families changed over Mr. Rooney’s lifetime. Not all of us are movie stars, or get married and divorced eight times.  But every one of us needs to have, and maintain, an up-to-date estate plan.  So, however many spouses and loved ones you may have, it’s a good idea to have your wishes and directives legally established in a will, trust, and other testamentary documents.  As an estate planning attorney, that’s what I do. And I’ll be happy to talk to you about any questions and concerns you may have.  To schedule a consultation, please contact us at 818.956.9200818.956.9200. Glendale Location 616 E.
